State Forests in Virginia

In 2023, Virginia had 26 state forests with almost 75,000 acres of land. They are managed as sustainable assets but also as "working woods," not wilderness areas. The Virginia Department of Forestry funds its operations using revenue generated from managing the resources - primarily timber - on the state forests.1
