A signer of the Declaration of Independence, Francis Lightfoot Lee, lived in the plantation house at Menokin. Nearby lived the enslaved workers. Today the Menokin Foundation, whch owns the historic site, is tellling the story of both communities.
The mansion house was damaged when a tree fell on it in the 1960's. About 80% of the original materials remain.
