The boundaries of Virginia's Planning District Commissions (PDC's) show where there is a community of interest among counties, cities and towns in a geographic area. Planning District Commissions (PDC's) deal with transportation issues for jurisdictions outside the areas represented by Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO's), plus:¹

Within their region they may serve to build regional approaches to issues like economic development, solid waste management and legislative priorities.
